Fit for Life: Keeping the Weight Off
What is even harder than losing weight? Keeping the weight off.
We want you to be successful at long-term weight management. At Physicians Health & Fitness, we continue to support you by reinforcing the skills you obtained during the weight loss phase and by teaching you additional strategies for long-term lifestyle changes.
Lose weight and keep it off!
In published literature, obesity treatments have generally been found to be unsuccessful in helping people to maintain long-term weight loss. HMR®'s experience stands apart in this regard.
The HMR® Program is designed to provide patients with a substantial level of support and accountability that goes beyond that offered in traditional weight management programs. The goal is to develop a partnership between the patient and the program that promotes a higher level of consistent confronting and problem-solving.
Phase 2 of the program is presented as a structure intended to help patients develop lifelong, lifestyle changes. Because of our culture, periodic episodes of overeating and weight gain are inevitable. This is the case for all patients. In fact, there are very few people in the general population whose weight never changes. The primary goal of Phase 2 is to support the development of skills to:
• Incorporate higher levels of physical activity (PA) into the daily routine
• Incorporate simple changes in food choices to reduce overall calorie intake
• Respond to episodes of overeating with intentional, highly structured healthy eating days, as well as reducing the number and magnitude of overeating days
• Re-establish the "system" for weight management when the positive lifestyle behaviors have changed from periodic episodes of overeating and weight gain.
